About Ocean State Archery

Ocean State Archery owner and head coach Cerji Colvin first became involved in archery as a volunteer counselor at Circle of Tapawingo, a one-week camp in Maine for girls who’ve experienced the death of a parent. Circle’s director of landsports approached Cerji about becoming a certified instructor so that archery could be offered to Circle campers. After taking lessons, purchasing equipment, becoming a certified instructor, and creating the archery program at camp, Cerji was hooked on the sport. Cerji began to compete, and started to coach outside of camp. Cerji placed 2nd, 7th, and 3rd at Indoor Nationals in the barebow division as a senior female in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Cerji became a USA Archery certified coach in 2014, and completed Level IV Coach certification in 2020. After spending nine years coaching in Western Massachusetts, Cerji relocated to the ocean state in December 2022 to teach in Rhode Island. Coach Cerji looks forward to encouraging archers of all skill levels to try archery, or to improve their existing practice of the sport.

What It's Like to Learn with Coach Cerji

“I shoot barebow because I like the basic simplicity of shooting without lots of accessories. I see archery as a sport at which I can compete against myself, and I’m always working toward my next personal best. I encourage archers to succeed by supporting their goals, and understanding their challenges. I am empathetic to the needs of the archers I coach, and help them be empathetic toward themselves. I want archers to learn new skills in a fun, safe, respectful environment, where everyone is considerate of our community.”
